Local Dollars for Scholars Chapter Needs You to Walk for Money for Scholarships

The CSF of BGM Chapter of Iowa Dollars for Scholars is seeking walkers for First Lady Christie Vilsack’s Walk for Dollars for Scholars to be held Sunday, Oct. 3 at Terrace Hill, 2300 Grand Avenue in Des Moines. This first-time event will raise awareness and money for scholarships for post-secondary education.

The 5k Walk starts at 10:30 a.m. and is in conjunction with the Governor’s Cup 10/5k Race which starts at 10 a.m. A Chris Cakes pancake breakfast for participants precedes the event. A $25 walker fee covers costs, gives walkers a long-sleeve tee shirt and the breakfast. Any sponsorship of a walker, above the $25 fee, goes directly to your local Chapter for scholarships. Tee shirts are available to anyone who registers by September 13. Fees need to be paid by September 25.

Businesses, sponsors, civic organizations, individuals and students of all ages who care about the availability of higher education are invited to take part in this inaugural fund raising event for Iowa Dollars for Scholars. Collegiate Partners will send walkers and participate in a College Fair to showcase what their school has to offer students. Their athletes and students are invited to “hoop it up” with the walkers, walk with their banners and compete college to college on the numbers of walkers. Scholarship prizes will be available to schools that have the highest level of participation.

Special events for children include a Tot Trot and Pumpkin Painting. Families are welcome! After the walk and race, there will be fun, food, festivities and music at Terrace Hill.
