$1000.00 CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED FROM BROOKLYN MUTUAL TELEPHONE CO.

The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of BGM (a Dollars for Scholar Chapter) received a check for $1000.00 from the Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Co.   The Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Company is community minded and was happy to make this donation to the Scholarship Foundation.

The Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Co. was one of the original three businesses that provided matching grants in the amount of $5000.00 per year for the first 5 years of the Foundations existence.  The telephone company recognizes that we need to continue to increase the endowment funds of the foundation so that scholarships  will be available to assist our students in attending post secondary education.  Because the Federal government is giving less aid to students, it is necessary for local people and businesses to continue to increase the amount of funds available on the local level.  The only way that we can do that as a community is to increase the endowment fund so that each year we have additional funds to grant to “our kids.” After all, if we do not help our own kids, who will?

The board of directors of the telephone company believes in the youth of our community and this is one way they have picked to show that commitment.

The foundation would like to thank the board of directors, management, and employees of Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Co. for their support.  Without all of us working together the job may not be done.  However, with the continued support of the phone company and other community members, we will be able to increase the scholarships given each year.  The goal of the foundation is to provide meaningful support to every BGM graduate who desires to go on to post secondary education.

Anyone or organization wishing to make a donation to the Foundation please contact, Deb Gay, Board of Trustee representative for the BGM School Board-Malcom, or any other board member.  You can also write to Box 469, Brooklyn, IA 52211.
