$25,000 CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM HEITSMAN
The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of BGM (a Dollars for Scholars Chapter) received a check for $25,000 from the estate of William Heitsman.
William was born and had lived on the family farm close to Brooklyn for almost 90 years. He started to school in the schoolhouse that was located on the South side of Brooklyn and walked from home to school each day. William graduated from Brooklyn in 1932 and had two sisters Hildegard Heitsman and Marie Mayhew who also graduated from the Brooklyn school system. William never married, had served in WWII and belonged to the Brooklyn Legion.
After talking with Sue Eichhorn from Montezuma it was learned that William was a great supporter for the Brooklyn community and the BGM school system. William loved to attend all the football and basketball games until he could no longer go to them. He felt that by leaving the money to CSF of BGM he could help other kids to continue their educations with a scholarship. His generous contribution has established a permanent scholarship in his name to be given out each Awards Day in May.
Leaving money to CSF in your estate is an excellent way to make a donation and to make a dream of higher education come true with an added scholarship for our students. Through your contributions and help there is hope for the future. You can help in making a difference for our students in the years to come.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution to any fund or memorial within the Foundation, please contact Rich Carmichael Board of Trustees representative for the Brooklyn Ruritan, or any other board member. You can also write to Box 469, Brooklyn, IA 52211.
