HICKS SCHOLARSHIP FUND REACHES PERMANENT SCHOLARSHIP LEVEL
The CSF of BGM (a Dollars for Scholars Chapter) received a donation from Marvin and Dorothea Hicks, which brought “The Hicks Scholarship Fund” to the permanent scholarship level.
The Hicks Scholarship Fund started as a memorial for Marvin’s folks, Howard and Margaret Hicks and has now become a general fund for the family to add additional funds in remembrance of the Hicks family members.
Dorothea commented that both Marvin and her feel that it is important for students to further their education whether they attend a 2 or 4-year college. Neither Marvin or Dorothea’s folks were able to finish High School but made sure that Marvin and Dorothea went to college. Marvin and Dorothea’s three daughters graduated from BGM before continuing their education.
In today’s society they also feel that everyone should achieve as much education as possible. CSF of BGM is an excellent program and by establishing a permanent scholarship fund was their way of showing how much they appreciated the time and effort it takes to keep the scholarship program going. Dorothea has been involved with CSF from the start by being in charge of the Awards program. Her contribution and time is appreciated.
The foundation is grateful to the Hicks family for their continued support of CSF and their continued involvement within. The Foundation believes in education and only through your support can it reach its goals. We appreciate your help.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Foundation, please contact Sherry Burke, Board of Trustee representative for the City of Guernsey, or any other board member. You can also write to Box 469, Brooklyn, IA 52211.
