86% OF THE SENIORS APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The CSF of BGM (a Dollars for Scholar Chapter) passed out scholarship applications on March 2, 1998 and held Applications Night on Wednesday evening, March 25th, 1998. That was the deadline for returning applications. 37 BGM students turned in applications for the scholarships to be presented on Awards Night, May 20, 1998, at the BGM High School. The 37 students submitting the applications represent 86% of the senior class.
This is the highest percentage to date for seniors applying for scholarships thru the CSF of BGM. You can be very proud of them. Only thru your contributions and help can the Foundation continue awarding the scholarships. As the endowment grows thru your contributions, seniors will be able to receive more and larger scholarships.
Over the past 9 years (including this year) there has been 292 students apply for a scholarship thru the CSF of BGM out of 420 graduates. That is 69.5%.
The Award Committee, chaired by Dorothea Hicks, will meet on March 31, 1998, 6:00 pm at Manatt’s to score the scholarship applications. Dorothea Hicks has chaired and helped score the applications since the beginning. There has been many people help Dorothea and she would like to thank all of them. If anyone is interested in helping Dorothea this year, please call her at 685-6482. Remember if you have any relation graduating in May, 1998, you can not serve on the Awards Committee this year.
If you see Dorothea on the street please stop her and say thank you for all the work she has done for the CSF of BGM.
Awards Night, Wednesday May 20, 1998, is a special night for BGM graduating seniors. It has been made special, in part because of your contributions. We invite everyone to attend Awards Night to show your support for the graduates and see how much excitement you have helped generated thru your contributions.
Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Foundation please contact Dorothea Hicks, CSF of BGM Awards Chairperson and Board of Trustee representative for the Guernsey Alumni Association, or any other Board member. You can also write to Box 469, Brooklyn, Iowa 52211.
The saying for the week is: Before a person can achieve the kind of life he wants, he must think, act, walk, talk, and conduct himself in all of his affairs as would the person he wishes to become.
