$12,000 RECEIVED FROM THE ESTATE OF EDITH E. SPADING
The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of BGM a (Dollars for Scholars Chapter) received a $12,000.00 contribution from the estate of Edith E. Spading. Edith died on Dec. 31, 1997. This is a Memorial Fund and a scholarship will be awarded each May in memory of Edith E. Spading.
Edith has three surviving sisters, Myrtle Ormiston, Gladys Paynter and Marie Roudabush. I had a wonderful talk with them and they informed me that there were 5 sisters and all 5 were teachers some time in their life. Edith started teaching math in the rural school system. Education meant a lot to all five of them and especially to Edith. Edith felt that all worthy students who wanted to go on to higher education should have a chance. For that reason she wanted to help make a difference and so she set aside these funds in her estate.
Being community minded, this was Edith’s way of giving something back to the community. I didn’t know Edith but she must have been the person that believed and tried to live by a couple of the sayings I used quite often in the past. Those saying are ( Education is a gift of a life time )and ( It takes a whole community to raise a child ).
The Foundation is thankful to Edith E. Spading and her family for the contribution in memory of Edith E. Spading. Edith has helped in making a difference and not only will this be a memorial for Edith but will also help a graduating senior go on to higher education.

Saying for the week is: There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative. By Clement Stone.
