CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED FROM TRUST IN MEMORY OF SARAH EVELYN MILLER PEAK
The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of BGM a (Dollars for Scholars Chapter) received $2000.00 from the trust of Sarah Evelyn Miller Peak and Edward Bennett Peak in memory of Sarah Evelyn Miller Peak, who was a 1929 Brooklyn graduate. Besides graduating from the Brooklyn school system, Evelyn had also been a country school teacher for 4 years in the Brooklyn area.
Evelyn’s parents were Samiel Thompson Miller and Carrie Hayes Miller. She was the 4th of 7 children. Evelyn married Edward Bennett Peak, who was a farmer, and they had 5 children. Katherine Peak Sturtz who taught in the Grinnell system, from Gilman; Edward Lee Peak, a farm manager; Sandra (Mrs. Ray) Tokle who works at Grinnell Family Care; and Polly Knoll who works for Grinnell Surgical Assoc.; all from Grinnell, and Carolyn (Mrs. Rich) Stadtmueller who is a former teacher, from Monticello, Ia. Evelyn also had a sister who lived in the Brooklyn area, Mrs. Dorothy (Bill) Smith.
Evelyn felt that an education is important. To get an education back in 1929 was very special, especially for a woman. That is why Katherine chose to honor her mother by giving a donation from the trust to the foundation.
Katherine also gave a contribution to the Grinnell Dollar for Scholars in the memory of both her mother and father who was from the Grinnell area.
The Foundation wants to thank the family of Sarah Evelyn Miller Peak for the contribution. This contribution will always be a part of the Foundation and will help to encourage all our graduates to continue their education as Evelyn Peak did in her life.
