What is
Citizens’ Scholarship
Foundation
of BGM?
It
is a community organization working to provide supplementary
funds for high school graduates for continuing education and preschool
students just starting their education experience. It is the local chapter of the national non-profit
organization, Scholarship America.
We operate with volunteer, non-salaried school district
citizens in our BGM incorporated, tax-exempted organization.
TOP
What
is its Purpose?
The
purpose of the local chapter is to expand the educational
opportunities for BGM area students. CSF of BGM functions are
fourfold: to develop an operational process, to promote the
Dollars for Scholars program, to raise funds for scholarship
distribution and to award the scholarships on a fair, non-discriminary
and equitable basis. The local foundation believes that all
students who are sincerely determined to further their education,
whether they are average or above average, have a right to continue
their education after graduation. Any graduating senior at BGM
Community School may apply.

How
are Funds Provided?
Funds
are raised through several special events sponsored through the local
board of directors. In addition, local campaigns are held each
year seeking individual contributions. THE CHAPTER ACCEPTS
MEMORIALS, TRUSTS, AND GRANTS to establish an enduring foundation (see
continuing paragraphs for further information). DONATIONS ARE
TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

How
are Scholarships
Awarded?
CSF
of BGM recipients are determined by the local awards Committee.
Applicants are scored anonymously. A complete listing of the
point system used for selection can be obtained at the BGM Counseling
Office.
TOP
What Type of Awards
are
Given?
Each
Scholarship award is given as a grant with no repayment required.
When students complete or discontinue their education, the recipients
are encouraged to contribute to the Foundation in order to help
perpetuate the scholarships. We also
have a loan program - see the description for Motes second chance

Will
a Scholarship from CSF
Conflict
with Other
Scholarships?
NO!
CSF of BGM may act as an umbrella for the administration of all local
scholarships. Thus, students may need to make only one
application to be considered for all available awards. However,
existing scholarships may retain names of the donors, and may be
subject to any criteria established by the donor.
TOP
Does the
Applicant have a Choice of Colleges?
Yes,
unlike some scholarships, CSF of BGM scholarships are awarded for
attendance at any post-secondary collage, university, vocational or
trade school recognized by our high school.

How
Can I Help?
All
contributions, regardless of size, are important! With the costs
of higher education increasing, many students are needing financial
help. Together we can pool our funds to help deserving students
reach for their goal. It is this sort of working together and
sharing that strengthens the unity in a community. Let our young
people know we appreciate them and support them.

How Does the Permanent
Fund (Endowment) Work?
The
endowment program works on a simple concept. The original gift
is invested and the income generated is used to fund a scholarship.
The original amount, or “Principal” remains in the investment
account to generate more income, which will be awarded the next year.
Our Foundation would like to see the majority of the gifts placed in
this type of fund.
